Featured Coach
Aloha To all Our Mililani Coaches,
Welcome to a new season and to the Coaches Corner! I am your new Coach Administrator, Sharon Mujtabaa. I’ve been involved with the Region for many years. I want to thank all of you, for volunteering as a Coach. You’ll never find a more rewarding experience than working with our AYSO children.
One of the new programs, for this season is our featured coach. For the Fall season, I would like to introduce you to Coach Mike Umeda (pictured here on the right). He’s been coaching with AYSO for over 20 years! With this experience comes many, many stories. Mike has also served as a Regional Board members for many years, did you ever wonder who maps out all the field then lines them for your enjoyment? We’ll you are correct, it is Mike and his one man crew, Les Takiguchi. Mike is also a public servant during the day and has served proudly at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard. Mike has had the great joy and pleasure of coaching his four children in AYSO.
For the new coaches, come out and learn from Mike. Watch him conduct practice with his U12 Gold Extra team. Mike will be more than happy to share coaching stories, strategies and ideas with you. Feel free to take notes, so you can apply this experience with your own team during practices and games. Although Mike is very friendly, he has a tough shell; remember if he does not smile and welcome you during your first meeting, its ok. He is a good guy and will warm up with every future interaction you have with him. Mike has trained many youth and adults to coach and run a high-quality practice. His goal is to help you become the best coach you possibly can be so he leaves a strong AYSO legacy behind of future awesome AYSO Coaches. Mike has also inspired many AYSO Alumni to come back and coach teams of their own.
Great Job, Mike. So don’t be afraid, go up and introduce yourself and soak up all the knowledge Mike has to share with you. Thanks again Mike for all you do for the children of Mililani/Wahiawa AYSO and Region 119.
In addition to interacting with Coach Mike, I will have tips of my own to share with coaches “young” and “old” alike in future updates of AYSO Region 119’s Coaches Corner, so stay tuned.
Until then bring a comfortable chair and enjoy the Safe, Fun and exciting games our AYSO children will have during this Fall Season.
Mahalo,
Sharon Mujtabaa
* Note – On a quarterly basis, AYSO Region 119 will highlight a coach from a selected program in our Region. We will provide a short summary of why this coach is featured and engage with our coach with the intent of sharing valuable insight and suggestions for coaches and athletes in our Region to develop their AYSO soccer skills. Remember, with AYSO great soccer starts here.
